as Z0id said networking in OC2 uses virtio-net so it just works
with plain vanilla Linux. You can network inside the game trivially
and do so well. Between an OC2 computer and the outside internet is
harder for reasons but we have implemented one of many possible
approaches that works and works well. Just isn't the sanest to set
up on the outernet side.

Well consider the following: A C library for making OC2 OS

<DaComputerNerd> I really ought to try out
oc2 sometime
L74[12:19:49]

L75[12:19:59]
<Z0idberg>
But I've been too busy to do anything
L76[12:20:41]
<Z0idberg>
But getting Lua to work would probably be extremely easy
L77[12:20:46]
<Z0idberg>
Lua is self contained and very very tiny
L78[12:21:04]
<Z0idberg>
I don't think it needs many standard functions
L79[12:21:18]
<Z0idberg>
and even then, you could probably compile a standard library for
RISC-V and be done with most of it

betas/nightlies/whatever. Mostly supported by the quote in the
manual regarding VRAM buffers that they are “New in OC 1.7.5
Developer builds and expected in the next release (OC 1.8)”
L182[21:04:19]
<Warior4356> I'm curious when that config
stopped working
L183[21:05:03]
<Warior4356> The code has existed since
Minecraft 1.64
L184[21:05:06]
<Warior4356> Or earlier
L185[21:05:12]
<Warior4356> that's the oldest version I
can find haha
L186[21:05:27] <Amanda> Elfi: Halp, I
tried tapping "Next Chapter" on my ebook and it's
saying" You've reached the end of the file" -- that can't
be, there's no more files. D:
L187[21:06:23] <Amanda> ooo, danke, you
put a new chappy out 22h ago!
L188[21:07:15] <Hawk777> Is there a way to
distinguish, in OC’s Jenkins, “experimental build created because
someone pushed a new commit” from “proper release build that is
suitable for mere mortals to install”?
L189[21:13:51]
<Warior4356> Well, hawk, I have a lazy
solution to my mining problem.
L190[21:13:55]
<Warior4356> Flood the mine.
L191[21:16:04] <Hawk777> I mean OK I guess
that works :D
L192[21:19:37] <Hawk777> Could even give
your robot a bucket of water to do it automatically I
suppose.
L193[21:19:50] <Hawk777> Maybe that’s what
you meant?
L194[21:22:45]
<Warior4356> That would work.
L195[21:24:15]
<Warior4356> No it won't.
L196[21:24:31] <Amanda> %remindme 2h check
for new chappys
L197[21:24:32] <MichiBot> I'll tell you
"check for new chappys" in 2h at 04/04/2022 11:24:31
PM
L198[21:25:27]
<Warior4356> The bruteforce option is just
have it mine in the ocean
L199[21:26:28]
<Warior4356> If I could spare an upgrade
slot, a piston upgrade would work.
L200[21:26:46]
<Warior4356> But my slots are full, unless
I wanted to drop the screen/keyboard.
L201[21:29:40] <Hawk777> Can the robot use
shears or a sword or something to remove the cobwebs?
L202[21:29:45] <Hawk777> (not sure,
haven’t tested)
L203[21:29:57]
<Warior4356> Yes
L204[21:30:07]
<Warior4356> But that would require and
inventory management upgrade to switch tools
L205[21:30:16] <Hawk777> Oh, I see, didn’t
realize what your limitations were.
L206[21:30:37] <Hawk777> I assume the
reason not to use a water bucket is the same?
L208[21:31:48]
<Warior4356> Mining robots are
complicated.
L209[21:32:18] <Hawk777> Could possibly
remove the navigation upgrade and do dead reckoning instead, but
would be much more fragile.
L210[21:32:36]
<Warior4356> I've tried that in the past,
it just fails.
L211[21:32:36]
<Warior4356> >Hawk777: Could possibly
remove the navigation upgrade and do dead reckoning instead,
b…
L212[21:32:44]
<Warior4356> Oh wait!
L213[21:32:53]
<Warior4356> I can put upgrade containers
in the bottom slots can't I?
L214[21:33:10] <Hawk777> Yeah I think
so.
L215[21:33:17]
<Warior4356> That would get me 3 more
slots.
L216[21:33:25]
<Warior4356> The lazy answer here is a
piston upgrade.
L217[21:33:37]
<Warior4356> if you can't break the block,
try to push
L218[21:34:20]
<Warior4356> Yep, extra slots.
L219[21:34:23]
<Warior4356> That's the answer.
L220[21:34:57]
<Warior4356> I could give it some extra
space too.
L221[21:35:04]
<Warior4356> And an extra battery
L222[21:35:23]
<Warior4356> Dead reckoning fails on a
tree farm, let alone when mining.
L223[21:35:23]
<Warior4356> >Hawk777: Could possibly
remove the navigation upgrade and do dead reckoning instead,
b…
L224[21:36:09] <Hawk777> Interesting, I
haven’t done too much with it, but I’ve had it work fine for me
(always checking the return value of move commands, of course, to
know whether the robot *actually* moved or not).
L225[21:36:12] <Hawk777> What goes
wrong?
L226[21:36:40]
<Warior4356> If a mob or block gets in the
way it can be "interupted"
L227[21:36:48]
<Warior4356> like a tree growing at
exactly the wrong moment
L228[21:37:01] <Hawk777> Doesn’t it return
didn’t-move in that case though?
L229[21:37:05] <Hawk777> (false
IIRC?)
L230[21:37:13]
<Warior4356> Usually, but not
always.
L231[21:37:16] <Hawk777> Ah.
L232[21:37:30]
<Warior4356> I think it can
"start" the legal move, then be interupted
L233[21:38:27] <Hawk777> I was using my
robots in environments where’s that can’t happen, so that makes
sense.
L234[21:38:48]
<Warior4356> Mobs walking in can also mess
it up.
L235[21:39:47]
<Warior4356> How would you design a robot
that doesn't have a keyboard and screen anyway?
L236[21:40:31]
<Warior4356> I mean, you could... Hmmm Put
the screen and keyboard in an upgrade container, then unplug them
once you hit start.
L237[21:41:41] <Hawk777> Pre-install
everything on the hard drive. Have it run on boot (via init.lua or
an rc script or whatever mechanism you prefer). Without a keyboard
and screen it still has a power button.
L238[21:41:55] <Hawk777> Use wifi if you
need human control or supervision I guess.
L239[21:42:06]
<Warior4356> ahhh
L240[21:42:10]
<Warior4356> That makes sense.
L241[21:42:39] <Hawk777> (or be insane, if
it needs human supervision, give it an Internet card and have it
tweet every time it breaks a block)
L242[21:42:45]
<Warior4356> ...
L243[21:43:04] <Hawk777> :D
L244[21:45:11]
<Warior4356> I wish waypoints could
remember their id without a human having to fix it.
L245[21:45:18]
<Warior4356> ...
L246[21:45:28]
<Warior4356> I wonder if a robot can
program a way point somehow...
L247[21:56:32]
<Warior4356> No, but a computer
can....
L248[21:56:40]
<Warior4356> ... I just had the stupidest
idea.
L249[21:56:44]
<Warior4356> Lay cable.
L250[21:59:39] <Hawk777> Robot has cable
in its inventory and places it to connect an existing computer to
new waypoints in the world?

L262[22:13:36] <Hawk777> Warior4356: I
like it! Has almost a feel of a grey goo scenario. Just need it to
also start placing more computers.
L263[22:14:29]
<Warior4356> It would be a challenge to
set them up.
L264[22:14:46]
<Warior4356> But the thought it, it can
move it's own ender chest, charger, and power cell.
L265[22:14:56]
<Warior4356> If it can move a way
point...
L266[22:15:22]
<Warior4356> On the other hand...
L267[22:15:30]
<Warior4356> Having it mine a 200x200 area
out will take days.
L268[22:15:43]
<Warior4356> maybe more than a week.
L269[22:17:00]

<Kristopher38> >Warior4356: If a mob or

L271[22:17:17] <Hawk777> Alternatively,
could you just leave the waypoint behind in its original location
and just calculate all positions relative to that fixed
point?
L272[22:18:15] <Hawk777> I guess only up
to the range limit.
L273[22:19:05]
<Warior4356> It's arbitray
L274[22:19:05]
<Warior4356> >Hawk777: I guess only up

<Warior4356> But consumes more and more
power.
L276[22:19:45] <Hawk777> Right.
L277[22:20:04] <Hawk777> Hm, if your
mining is sufficiently far from other activities, perhaps it could
just use the nearest waypoint, rather than requiring it to be
labelled?
