L49[08:11:01] <Skye> Inari, what
L50[08:11:36] <Inari> Well like we know the eardrum vibrates from airwaves, which creates signals, which the brain analyzes. I don't think we know exactly how that makes you reall hear sound though
L51[08:12:25] <Inari> You can "enhance" sense wihtout introducing new sensations by mapping. So you might measure IR radiation and map it to normal light colours (something we can experience and have a sensation for)
L52[08:12:45] <Inari> But we cant make IR really a "sensation" you can experience yet
L53[08:15:49] <AmandaC> /o\ my bluetooth mouse broke again! and I have no idea why. dmesg doesn't say anything, bluez doesn't say anything. the /dev node is still there.

L379[19:48:29] <S3> So, here's my take. You CAN split in bash. It's not the same effect, but it can be done. In Perl, what I would do is split by colon the passwd / shadow files or whatever and hold them in arrays or something, then there's a couple things that can be done. One way is to read the new passwd / shadow files and replace array data, using a join with : and rewriting the lines in the new password database files..
L380[19:49:09] <S3> I'm simply assuming what he's trying to do is read the user and passes from the old passwd and shadow files and copying the password field into the new shadow files?
L381[19:49:58] <S3> This can be done using bash as well, butu I am not exactly sure (looking into it) how to split into a group of ariables in bash
L382[19:50:01] <S3> or some array
