L31[09:46:09] <Guest52719> Got a weird
problem - I'm wanting to practice EVA skills, and don't want to
spend time getting a ship into orbit, so I've got a very basic
craft, and I cheat it into orbit, and as soon as it gets there it
starts spinning, as though the RCS is on, going faster and faster
and I can't get control or stop it. It's almost as though there's a
key stuck i
L32[09:46:09] <Guest52719> n the down
position, but this a brand new computer - literally less than 24
hours that I've had it.
L33[09:46:13] <Guest52719> This is in
Sandbox mode, v1.10; using SAS has no effect, only seems to make
things worse. I've quit and restarted KSP, deleted the game
entirely and started over, and it keeps happening. About the only
thing I haven't tried is rebooting the computer itself.
Suggestions?
L34[09:47:18] <hoglahoo> do you think it is
related to cheating your ship into orbit
L35[09:47:29] <hoglahoo> I don't know how
to cheat a ship into orbit so I'm not sure how to test that
L36[09:47:33] <Althego> does it do that on
the launchpad with gravity off?
L37[09:47:53] <Guest52719> Alt-F12, then
select Cheats on the left, then Orbit
L38[09:47:59] <hoglahoo> o

L41[09:49:21] <Guest52719> Not sure, I
didn't think to try turning off gravity ... not sure how to do
that, I'm new to cheats.... I'll see if I can figure it out.
L42[09:49:41] <Althego> it is in the cheats
too
L43[09:49:50] <Althego> a slider and an
activation checkbox
L44[09:50:00] <Althego> you can turn it
almost completely off
L45[09:50:49] <Althego> if the lower left
control indicators dont show a control input, then it may be a
phantom force
L46[09:51:05] <Guest52719> I'll take a look
and let you know ...
L47[09:51:06] <Althego> or it can come from
reaction wheels
L48[09:51:24] <Althego> and you can turn
off those by the context menu of the capsule
L49[09:52:32] <Guest52719> Aw crud, I can't
seem to find where to turn off gravity in the cheats... little
help?
L50[09:52:45] <Guest52719> oh wait
L51[09:52:54] <Guest52719> I think I found
it ... hack gravity
L52[09:53:10] <Althego> that
L53[09:53:31] <Althego> move the slider way
down and clickthe ckeckbox
L54[09:53:47] <Guest52719> yep, as soon as
I turn off the gravity it the ship on the launchpad started
spinning.
L55[09:53:52] <Althego> hehe
L56[09:53:59] <Althego> so it is not the
reposition
L57[09:54:05] <Althego> what if you turn
off reaction wheels?
L58[09:56:06] <Guest52719> Reaction Wheels
are set to Normal; I've got SAS and Pilot, but not an Off setting.
Looks like SAS leaves it in place.
L59[09:56:21] <Guest52719> I'll try
cheating it to orbit and see if that sticks.
L60[09:56:22] <Althego> turn them off
L61[09:57:24] <Guest52719> Is there another
button to turn them off completely? Every time I click the blue
Reaction Wheel button it cycles - Normal, SAS Only, Pilot Only. Am
I missing something?
L62[09:57:50] <Althego> hmm i remembered
you could turn them off
L63[09:57:59] <Althego> maybe it is in the
advanced tweakables
L64[09:58:27] <Althego> i guess sas only
would be off if sas is off
L65[09:58:45] <Alanonzander> Set to
idle
L66[10:00:06] <Guest52719> Well, with the
RW set to SAS Only, it doesn't spin when it gets to orbit, but it
won't respond at all now, whether SAS is on or off. Just sits there
like a lump.
L67[10:00:21] <Althego> so it is the
reaction wheels doing it
L68[10:00:41] <Althego> which really looks
like control input
L69[10:00:51] <Althego> when you look in
the lower left corner
L70[10:01:04] <Althego> is any of the
orange needles off center?
L71[10:02:11] <Guest52719> Pitch is
slightly. When I use any of SAS pre-sets, prograde or retrograde,
it goes nuts. It stablizes if I deselect any of those.
L72[10:02:30] <Althego> maybe you have
trim
L73[10:02:33] <Althego> press alt-x
L74[10:02:38] <Althego> on windows
L75[10:03:03] <Guest52719> ok, alt-X,
nothing appears to happen. Should I see something?
L76[10:03:17] <Althego> the needle gping to
center
L77[10:04:02] <Guest52719> no, nothing ...
the offset of pitch from the center point is VERY slight...
L78[10:04:35] <Guest52719> And even though
I didn't try anything, w/ SAS on but nothing selected, it stabiled
on prograde.
L79[10:05:18] <Guest52719> When I use WASD
there's no response. Only the green top left SAS preset (whatever
it's called) is on.
L80[10:05:41] <Althego> obviously, because
we turned it off
L81[10:06:59] <Althego> in the wors case
you could turn the reaction wheels back to normal, and just counter
trim this input
L82[10:07:00] <Guest52719> ok, this is
weird... I set to spinning by selecting retrograde, changed windows
from the game to this dialog, then back again, and it's stabilized
on retrograde.
L83[10:11:20] <Guest52719> Yeah, something
is screwed up. When I'm focused on this window, if the ship is
spinning, I see roll, yaw, and pitch inputs that finally stabilize
the ship. As soon as I change to the game, it starts getting roll,
yaw, and/or pitch inputs that start the ship spinning.
L84[10:11:58] <Guest52719> The electric
charge is being drained, so something is feeding this thing.
L85[10:13:04] <Althego> you should get
similar things by just hovering above the cheat window
L86[10:13:26] <Althego> that also takes
away control input from the game and links it to the the window
isntead
L87[10:13:41] <Guest52719> Sorry ...
"get similar things"?
L88[10:14:06] <Althego> you meantioned
different behavior if the game was focused or not
L89[10:15:00] <Althego> i had this kind of
thing once and then it was my joystick feeding in a signal
L90[10:16:24] <Guest52719> That must've
been it ... I unplugged my joystick and it seems to be behaving
normally againl.
L91[10:16:37] <Althego> hehe
L92[10:16:41] <Althego> just calibrate
it
L93[10:16:50] <Althego> in my case a
headset was pressing on it slightly
L94[10:17:46] <Guest52719> Weird ... I just
got this computer, just calibrated the joystick yesterday, and it
was working fine. Strange that's it needs it again, but I'll give
it a try.
L95[10:18:28] <Guest52719> Thank you SO
much, oh KSP god!
L96[10:18:48] <Althego> lol
L97[10:19:28] <Althego> i have a logitech
extreme 3d pro. and even when it is calibrated, if i touch the
stick slightly it doesnt always go to center
L98[10:20:10] <Althego> so i have tomove a
bit several times to settle in the center completely
L99[10:20:20] <Guest52719> that's what I've
got as well. Brand new beasty, only a couple weeks old. I hope this
isn't going to become a habit.
L100[10:20:39] <Althego> also it is
useless for ksp because the game just ignores small movements, so
big dead zone
L101[10:20:53] <Guest52719> gotta go.
Thank you again! I'm much obliged to you for your time.
L102[10:20:59] <Althego> it works ok for
