<KillTyrant> Weird thought, but what
if tracks "degraded" over time and there was a
maintenance cart that repaired said damage? Would that even be a
possible feature?
L9[18:33:28]
<liach>
possible. however, the cost is that your server may be extremely
slow
L10[18:33:32]
<liach>
or your world
L11[18:33:55]
<liach>
just like what happens when you have a ton of drops on the
ground
L12[18:42:41]
<KillTyrant> Hmmm
L13[18:44:39]
<KillTyrant> The two different things
I had in mind was abandoned track for non-electrofied track (over
time) and higher loss of current for electrified track.
L14[18:44:40]
<KillTyrant> I suppose you're
right in that it may put undue burden on servers.

<liach>
waste over time is hard, but waste over cart usage is easier
(because then you just need to keep track of minecarts instead of
every track block)
L17[19:36:10]
<liach>
guess people would not like this feature still
L18[19:45:00]
<KillTyrant> People prolly dont like
that the turbine blades have durability either. If it's a
redundant feature that doesn't serve a purpose beyond tedium
than I can understand that. Which atm, this idea is. It creates a
new feature with no real bonus beyond keeping the status quo.
I'm prolly just weird in that I think maintenance should be
just as important as laying down the network.

<liach>
imo the rail usage and decay should be done in an addon
L21[20:02:55]
<CovertJaguar> the problem is either
need tile entities or some kind of external damage storage
L22[20:03:34]
<CovertJaguar> and I already rewrote
tracks completely once to eliminate tile entities from tracks
L23[20:23:59]
<KillTyrant> If not track maintenance
what about locomotive?
L24[22:59:38]
<Natesky9> I'd say a solid no on
that
L25[22:59:54]
<Natesky9> trains are already super
picky about running without issues
L26[23:00:11]
<Natesky9> and that was my least
favorite, coming back to see my trains tied in knots
L27[23:00:17]
<Natesky9> just because of a vanilla
bug
L28[23:00:57]
<Natesky9> honestly, there
doesn't need to be any "upkeep" if the system is
designed properly. That is good game design
L29[23:01:31]
<Natesky9> locomotives already need
constant fuel and water, why add a random element, or a "needy
module"
L30[23:02:12]
<Natesky9> imagine if redstone
randomly broke. random "bugs" that happened
L31[23:02:19]
<Natesky9> not fun.
L32[23:03:09]
<Natesky9> because when you set up
something properly, you expect it to work the same way, every
time.
