<Cyber>
anyone understand how event.timer works? I try to plug in a
function in the 2nd argument but the error says the function comes
back nil
L104[03:43:02] <Izaya> was it
timer(1,function) or timer(1,function())
L105[03:43:07] <Izaya> because the latter
is probably incorrect
L106[03:43:25]
<Cyber> the
latter
L107[03:43:51] <Izaya> does the function
you're putting in there return a function?
L108[03:44:01]
<Cyber> i
have something like this `event.timer(1, stats:info(),
math.huge)`
L109[03:44:19]
<Cyber> and
it should just print "hello"
L110[03:44:23] <Izaya> unless stats:info()
returns a function, that's going to evaluate as nil
L111[03:45:05] <Izaya> it evaluates
stats:info() to substitute it into the event.timer call
L112[03:46:31]
<Cyber>
ooh, so if I had a function `a` that returned a function `b` that
should work?
L113[03:47:12] <Izaya> yeah or you could
just not call the function
L114[03:48:27] <Izaya> now, this won't
work, because you're calling an instance object, but stats:info
without the () won't call it before passing the result to the
event.timer function
L115[03:48:42]
<Cyber> I
see, so to clarify event.timer returns an id when it reaches it's
specified interval?
L116[03:49:01] <Izaya> no
L117[03:49:03] <Izaya> so
L118[03:49:15] <Izaya> you pass
event.timer an interval number and a function
L119[03:49:20] <Izaya> not a function
call, a function
L120[03:49:31] <Izaya> (and optionally a
number of repetitions)
L121[03:49:45] <Izaya> it immediately
returns an ID, which can be used to cancel the timer
L122[03:51:17] <Izaya> to use it for an
instance call I'd use
L123[03:51:33] <Izaya>
event.timer(1,function() stats:info() end, math.huge)
L124[03:51:57] <Izaya> because : actually
means ., but pass the table to the function as the first
argument

works!!!

like what do you mean by putting something else on top?

gpu.setBackground(colors.red) gpu.fill(x,y,w,h," ")
gpu.setBackground(colors.green) gpu.fill(x2,y2,w2,h2," ")
gpu.setBackground(colors.black)

L351[17:01:19]
<Kristopher38> @DaComputerNerd I've had
that stuff written down somewhere, let me find it
L352[17:03:12]
<Kristopher38> the returned results are
ordered as follows: first towards positive X, then towards positive
Z, then towards positive Y
L353[17:03:12]
<Kristopher38> if you wanted to parse it
into a 3-dimensional table (which I don't recommend since it
consumes a lot of memory that way), or just interpret it in a
meaningful way, you'd write:
L355[17:03:39]
<Kristopher38> where sizeVector x y and z
are 4th, 5th and 6th arguments to geolyzer.scan
L356[17:03:46]
<Kristopher38> or rather
L357[17:03:54]
<Kristopher38> the order is x z y
L358[17:04:15]
<DaComputerNerd> and the geolyzer itself
is at the middle, rounded up if needed
L359[17:04:33]
<Kristopher38> it doesn't have to be in
the middle
L360[17:04:38]
<DaComputerNerd> so for a height of 64 the
geolyzer will be at 33 (by default)
L361[17:04:41]
<Kristopher38> since first three arguments
specify the offset
L362[17:04:54]
<Kristopher38> or it doesn't have to be in
the scan results, really
L363[17:05:12]
<Kristopher38> since you can scan an area
even far away from the geolyzer
L364[17:07:23]
<Kristopher38> you could do for example
geolyzer.scan(10, 0, 0, 4, 4, 4) to scan a 4x4x4 area 10 blocks
away (towards positive x) from the geolyzer
L365[17:08:30]
<Kristopher38> where sizeVector ~~x y and
z~~ x z and y* are 4th, 5th and 6th arguments to geolyzer.scan
