L86[17:27:00] <ForgeDiscord>

L87[17:27:53] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Discord's attitude?
L88[17:29:08] <gigaherz> specially not
while I live
L89[17:29:09] <gigaherz> :P
L90[17:30:09] <xaero> dw IRC will take
discord refugees when the climate becomes unbearable ^.^
L91[17:30:14] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> : P
L92[17:30:20] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Aah
L93[17:30:32] <ForgeDiscord>
<JamiesWhiteShirt> some people will refuse to join the
singularity
L94[17:30:44] <ForgeDiscord>
<JamiesWhiteShirt> because they have their setup just how
they want it
L95[17:31:21] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> I guess some people would even refuse its
existence
L96[17:37:30] <ForgeDiscord>
<Chocohead> At the end of the day Discord has different
overheads to IRC
L97[17:37:50] <ForgeDiscord>
<Chocohead> So it probably can't ever be as clean as IRC hold
outs might want
L98[17:38:04] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> I see
L99[17:38:24] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> I guess discord won't be clean code-wise
L100[17:38:45] <Disconsented> The day
discord gets functional ignores and sane notification settings is
the day I move
L101[17:38:53] <Disconsented> Which at
this rate is never
L102[17:39:10] <ForgeDiscord>
<Chocohead> It's beyond just the implementation, you're still
bound to their servers over being able to host your own
L103[17:39:24] <ForgeDiscord>
<Chocohead> And the privacy concerns attached to that
L104[17:39:30] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> What do ya mean by “functional
ignites”?
L105[17:39:39] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Aah I see
L106[17:39:49] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> And same with the notification
settings, what are you looking for ?
L107[17:39:50] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Discord server hosts all the servers
L108[17:40:04] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> Sorry “functional Ignores”
L109[17:41:34] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> Mmm true true about the servers.
But that’s also a benefit to some, no overhead for the users of it.
There’s upsides and downsides for every platform. Discord is easy
to use but not as feature rich / customisable. And IRC isn’t as
simple for a normal person, but is greatly customisable and feature
rich
L110[17:42:55] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> I think the thing is that as the
industry ages, we’re going to see less users of irc (not only irc)
as newer generations get used to other services and etc. But I
can’t tell the future. And I’m sure irc will always be loved by
many
L111[17:46:24] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> meh IRC will be around after discord is long gone
and it will still be here when the next new thing comes out hell it
will be here till the day the earth asplodes :P
L112[17:46:42] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Yea
L113[17:46:57] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> discord is nice but odds are it wone last till
something else becomes the new hotness
L114[17:47:06] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> wont*
L115[17:47:21] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> I’m sure it’ll last a long time.
But I’m also sure someone is going to eventually learn from IRC’s
success and make a new platform that’s similar.
L116[17:47:28] <ForgeDiscord>
<Chocohead> It's done better than what Curse offered at
least
L117[17:47:34] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> True
L118[17:47:38] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> And better than Skype XD
L119[17:47:46] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> thats because curse had contempt for their
userbase
L120[17:47:53] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> some say they still do
L121[17:48:01] <ForgeDiscord>
<Chocohead> Skype lasted for a very long time in
comparison
L122[17:48:01] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> And teamspeak, holy crap XD
L123[17:48:18] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> it did, but it’s almost dead now,
other than the people that are stubborn
L124[17:48:19] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Teamspeak XD
L125[17:48:26] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> But there are people using it still
L126[17:48:37] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> Teamspeak still has better user management that
discord >.>
L127[17:48:38] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> (Or whole big community)
L128[17:48:44] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Ooh
L129[17:48:47] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Didn't know that
L130[17:48:49] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> Of course there is still people
using it XD
L131[17:48:55] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> thats my biggest gripe
L132[17:49:16] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> the built in mod/admin tools kinda suck on
discord
L133[17:49:41] <gigaherz> had this
conversation a few times already
L134[17:49:50] <gigaherz> the only
advantages you get from a platform like Discord, over IRC
L135[17:49:56] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> Of course, and we’ll have it many
more times XD
L136[17:50:23] <gigaherz> are persistent
history, integrated hosting, and integrated communication
(voice/video chat)
L137[17:50:23] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> Voice chat would be one, but some
people don’t view that as an advantage XD
L138[17:50:31] <ForgeDiscord>
<Asherslab [MineColonies]> Mm true
L139[17:50:43] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Persistent History
L140[17:50:45] <gigaherz> literally
everything else discord does, can be done on IRC
L141[17:50:56] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> This is the only reason I like discord
L142[17:50:58] <gigaherz> and those 3
features can be done with the help of external services
L143[17:51:09] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Oh
L144[17:51:18] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> We may better just use IRC...
L145[17:51:33] <gigaherz> history ->
BNCs that remain connected for you
L146[17:51:53] <gigaherz> hosting ->
dropbox/gdrive/onedrive/...
L147[17:52:07] <gigaherz> voice/video
-> just give someone a hangouts link or whatever
L148[17:52:40] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> naverdrive
L149[17:52:40] <gigaherz> but everything
else?
L150[17:52:47] <gigaherz> integrated
emoji? client-side feature
L151[17:52:57] <gigaherz> embedding
previews of URLs? client-side feature
L152[17:53:08] <gigaherz> playback of
video/gif? client-side feature
L153[17:53:23] <gigaherz> etc
L154[17:53:41] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Yea
L155[17:53:52] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> I do like having a kitchen sink client its why I
hope matrix becomes the next big thing but the client for matrix is
horrible :(
L156[17:54:09] <gigaherz> in the ReactOS
project, we have been discussing alternative clients
L157[17:54:24] <gigaherz> we don't plan on
ditching IRC any time soon
L158[17:54:38] <gigaherz> but people have
expressed their interest in being able to make use of the extra
features
L159[17:55:06] <gigaherz> matrix is a big
contender as our #1 due to it being opensource
L160[17:55:27] <gigaherz> and freenode
having matrix gateway
L161[17:55:31] <gigaherz> so you can
connect to IRC from the matrix client :p
L162[17:55:59] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> I did that for a while but espernet netsplits
made authing kinda annoying
L163[17:57:12] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> What about a separate client
L164[17:57:38] <gigaherz> separate client
for?
L165[17:59:07] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Developing an entirely new client with clean
code
L166[17:59:16] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> With great features included
L167[17:59:20] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> ; P
L168[17:59:43] <ForgeDiscord>
</dev/illy> I am working on a client for matrix but time and
time and that other thing im missing called time
L169[18:01:27] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Aah
L170[18:01:34] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> At least you're not procrastinating
L171[18:01:39] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> I like that : P
L172[18:01:49] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> (Really, I hate me procrastinating)
L173[18:03:35] <gigaherz> Abastro: ...for
discord? or irc? orwhat?
L174[18:05:10] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> An IRC client with the additional features using
what you said
L175[18:14:28] <gigaherz> IRCCloud?
L176[18:15:33] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Why cloud?
L177[18:15:57] <gigaherz> I mean there's
an existing thing called IRCCloud
L178[18:16:16] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> Ooh, what does that do?
L179[18:16:19] <gigaherz> IRCCloud acts as
a proxy/bouncer, keeping itself logged into irc for you
L180[18:16:30] <gigaherz> so that when you
open the app/website, you can see old messages
L181[18:16:51] <ForgeDiscord>
<Abastro> I see, that's great
L182[18:17:35] <gigaherz> back when I
still had a job, I worked with a macbook, and I used a client
called LimeChat iirc
L183[18:17:47] <gigaherz> that client
woudl show thumbnails of image links
