L74[08:37:44] <Kristopher38> Izzy: the conclusions from one discussion I've had was that the fastest (and simplest) way is to draw everything to a whole-screen buffer and then blit it once
L75[08:39:08] <Kristopher38> You can allegedly get 20fps that way on T3 hardware so why bother with complicating your drawing algos
L76[08:40:20] <Izzy> oh, huh

L84[08:48:16] <Izzy> That's true
L85[08:48:35] <Izzy> honestly my main reason for wanting to use buffers is so I don't actually have to actually implement the virtual GPU
L86[08:49:11] <Izzy> vtansi is already used to working with GPU buffers, getty just swaps which instance is drawing to the screen at any given time

L95[08:53:25] <Izzy> that's actually much more interesting now that you mention it
L96[08:54:00] <Izzy> you'd want to write something to provide a packed representation of GPU commands to batch them
L97[09:00:38] <Kristopher38> My first idea was that exported vgpus could have an additional method `commit` that would send the internal state over the network
L98[09:01:16] <Kristopher38> But that might not fit in the 8k modem limit
L99[09:02:15] <Kristopher38> Unless with compression?
L100[09:06:36] <Izzy> I'd just keep a buffer and if the buffer fills within [deadline] then send it, otherwise wait for [deadline] in case more data appears
L101[09:30:01] <Izzy> though if you were using GPU buffers, a commit function would be interesting
L102[09:31:05] <Izzy> Kristopher38: a related and significantly more cursed idea I'd been toying with is packing GPU commands into VT100 style escape codes
L103[09:31:12] <Izzy> or rather, implementing the fill commands and similar
L104[09:31:18] <Izzy> because the later terminals did support that
