<Liizzii-chan> Y'know what's
more fun than IP conflicts? a stupid fucking dumb switch plugged
into itself and into an HP chassis switch which then gets an ARP
request looping as fast as it can - taking out IP phones and
anything connected downstream of them - without the enterprise
managed switches being able to detect there was a loop

<Michiyo> Packet Storms are fun.
L77[19:34:21]

<Liizzii-chan> yup. waiting for a server
to be freed from it's old responsibilities so i can turn it
into a logging server (currently all the switches just log to files
on the NMS server) and then i'ma set all the switches to
warn-and-disable for broadcast storms so i should get notified
sooner when they happen
L78[19:43:37] <stephanj> meh, i am always
suspecting broadcast storms here @home.
L79[19:43:53] <stephanj> but sadly switches
are to dumb to properly react on that

<Michiyo>
and my sword
L83[19:44:46] <stephanj> sure.
L84[19:46:25] <Lizzy> stephanj, so long as
you don't have a loop it should be okay, though a handy thing
to check is get a device with a lan port, make it so that it
doesn't send out on it (windows: disable all the IP stuff,
linux: don't give it an address/make it not do DHCP) and then
connect it to a spare switch port then you'll get all the
packets that are being
L85[19:46:25] <Lizzy> flooded out to the
network.
L86[19:47:03]

<Forecaster> I also choose that guys
sword.
L87[19:47:03] <Lizzy> more or less how i

to do that

consistent low key broadcast storm or many many devices sending
floods of broadcast packets
L92[20:01:48] <stephanj> the switches are
blinking like hell across all ports *always*
L93[20:01:57] <stephanj> these tplinks
