<S3>
@Ocawesome101When you've been driving without them, especially if
you've just owned vehicles without them for so long in dangerous
road conditions, I've grown to appreciate how to properly steer
when you lock your tires and handle surface slip with the tires
manually. I have to drive on the ice and snow every year and in
spring on very
L2[00:04:55] <Corded> muddy and slippery
dirt backroads. It's not that I think they shouldn't exist, but I
think a lot of people just never had to experience life without
them in places where they would usually be effective.
L3[00:06:07]
<Ocawesome101> for abs/traction control
that makes sense.
L4[00:11:37]
<S3> With
air bags, they're a lot better than they used to be. They're way
safer and there's a lot more of them... They were fucking scary
when I was younger, and were actually killing people, and I've had
friends go off the road becasuse they've gone off when getting hit
just right in older cars and suddenly lost control of the vehicle
because
L5[00:11:37] <Corded> of the air bag. So
it's more of a ptsd / trust thing than it is practical.
L6[00:12:03]
<S3> For my
mental state I just feel more comfortable wearing a seat belt and
hoping the hell I don't have a head on collision or t bone at high
speeds or a rollover or something
L7[00:12:29]
<S3>
Fortunately they're a lot less sensitive now too because they use
weight sensors in the seats and won't go off unless they think they
have to.
L8[00:14:17]
<S3> I lost
my brakes a coupple of times, and I was really thankful I didn't
end up hitting something spinning around a corner though and having
the air bags go off.
L9[00:14:25]
<S3> That's
always fun
L10[00:15:56]
<S3> Both
times I was able to steer out of the way and go around a corner or
two and take a quarter mile or so to stop. In both situations I was
driving an automatic and it really sucked not being able to use the
transmission to slow down
L11[00:17:20] <Izzy> half a K to stop? how
fast were you going?
L12[00:18:06]
<S3> Like
maybe 30 but the thing is parking brakes aren't going to stop your
vehicle unless you use really good drums and tighten it
enough.
L13[00:18:23]
<S3> Moost
of the time, if you pull a parking brake, it's going to give a
little bit of resistance, but isn't going to actually help
much
L14[00:18:44]
<S3> This
is vastly different from my WRX by the way
L15[00:18:46] <Izzy> oh I get you your
brakes actually failed
L16[00:18:50]
<S3> Which
will almost lock right up
L17[00:18:53] <Izzy> not that you lost
traction
L18[00:19:00] <Izzy> scary
L19[00:19:20]
<S3>
Yeah... my wife makes fun of me for starting to slow down for
intersections like a quarter mile away
L20[00:19:30] <Izzy> thankfully all my
vehicles have enough back pressure that I barely have to use the
brakes in normal conditions
L21[00:19:30]
<S3> like
not full braking, but like, starting to shift down
L22[00:19:40] <Izzy> it's smoother what's
to complain about?
L23[00:19:43]
<S3> I'm
always crawling bby the time I get to the light
L24[00:20:13] <Izzy> if you're lucky you
won't even have to stop because the light will change while you're
slowing down
L25[00:20:18]
<S3> She
scares me sometimes hitting the brakes going like 40 with only a
couple hundred feet left XD
L26[00:20:31]
<S3> That
is true happens all the time XD
L27[00:20:45] <Izzy> actually really
annoying because
L28[00:20:51] <Izzy> I haven't had any
practice in a car in years
L29[00:20:55] <Izzy> so I want to practice
at the lights
L30[00:21:01] <Izzy> but they keep turning
green before I stop
L31[00:21:09]
<S3> Just a
reference on air bags though, just on how scary they were in the
90s, modern air bags inflate like 8-14 miles per hour according to
google.
L32[00:21:34]
<S3> I
remember a news report in the 1990s that were warning about their
use with children in the front seats because they were deploying
them back end at speeds of almost 200 miles an hour
L33[00:22:04] <Izzy> children should not
sit in the front seats though?
L34[00:22:04]
<S3> So
forgive me if I just don't trust them XD
L35[00:22:14] <Izzy> like yeah design has
improved but kids go in the back
L36[00:22:21]
<S3> No,
you were supposed to be like 12
L37[00:22:34]
<S3> But
even then it's still scary af
L38[00:22:42]
<S3> They'd
go off like a frigging gun
L39[00:23:12] <Izzy> as a sidenote, the
swift has a much better safety rating than the other cars I was
looking at
L40[00:23:22]
<S3>
Hmm
L41[00:23:28]
<S3> OH
WOW
L42[00:23:32]
<S3> Suzuki
still makes cars?!
L43[00:23:42] <Izzy> they make a shittonne
of swifts and a couple of other things
L44[00:23:45] <Izzy> the jimny is
cute
L45[00:23:47]
<S3> Really
cool
L46[00:23:49] <Izzy> rare practical
SUV
L47[00:23:54] <ThePiGuy24> S3: dont know
how to engine brake? ;3
L48[00:23:59] <Izzy> 1996 mazda 323 astina
tho? zero stars.
L49[00:24:06] <Izzy> swift gets 4/5
stars
L50[00:24:09] <Izzy> safety wise
L51[00:24:13] <Izzy> so that's cool
L52[00:24:22]
<S3>
ThePiGuy24: I do it all the time... buut when I lost my brakes they
were automatics.
L53[00:24:34] <ThePiGuy24> id just simply
not drive an auto ;3
L54[00:24:42]
<S3> I just
had to depend on the planetary transmission
L55[00:24:57]
<S3> I
mean, I've never bought an automatic myself
L56[00:25:16]
<S3> It's
getting hard to find manuals though....
L57[00:25:29] <Izzy> I need to get a bumper
sticker that says basically "I'm driving a manual unlike you
cowards, if you think you can do better, honk" for when I take
more than three nanoseconds to move when the lights turn
green
L58[00:25:39]
<S3>
LOL
L59[00:25:50] <ThePiGuy24> ive no idea what
my little skoda scored safety wise, but its 2 decades old so
probably not too bad, but not excellent either
L60[00:25:52] <Izzy> S3: less than 3% of
cars sold in the US are manual. dire over there
L61[00:25:56] <Izzy> 30% over here
L62[00:26:24] <Izzy> (and falling, but I
imagine we'll get electric car market saturation before that
becomes a problem)
L63[00:26:25] <ThePiGuy24> here (the UK) it
is still primarily manual, but there is a slow push towards auto
(and electric)
L64[00:26:29]
<S3> It's
not a daily driver, but my truck is a ten speed with a rear end
clutch. My wife won't drive it. She's terrified of it I think
LOL
L65[00:26:47] <Izzy> DCT supremecy
L66[00:26:51] <Izzy> I desire one
L67[00:27:06]
<S3> This
is a 5 speed transmission with a 2 speed differential
L68[00:27:09] <ThePiGuy24> manual is just
more fun, you get to do stupid things and drive better ;3
L69[00:27:32]
<S3> so you
have the manual clutch for the transmission but an electronic one
for the rear axle, which- isn't hard to use but there are rules
about how you use it
L70[00:27:42]
<S3> for
example, you can NEVER change gear in the back if you're going
downhill
L71[00:28:00]
<S3> and
you should never downshift with a load unless you double
clutch
L72[00:28:13]
<S3> That
last part.. is why the truck is on its second differential.
L73[00:28:45]
<S3> The
guy that sold it to me had the rear axle fall out of the back of
the truck because they didn't double clutch while carrying a heavy
load.
L74[00:29:21]
<S3> It's
one of the top rules I learned when I watched the training material
for how to use that thing
L75[00:31:03]
<S3>
"Never downshift without double clutching when carrying any
weight", "Never shift the rear axle when going
downhill", and "always have the electronic clutch in the
"up position" when shifting from one gear in the
transmission to another" (includes No split shifting between
main transmisssion gears)
L76[00:31:53]
<S3> As
long as you follow those rules, everything should be fine 😄
L77[00:31:59]
<S3> My
wife was like "no"
L78[00:32:10]
<S3>
"Not doing it. You can drive it"
L79[00:39:03]
<S3> Also,
having this many levers can be daunting to people. They don't know
wha to think of it XD
L81[00:44:10] <lunar_sam> > I need to
get a bumper sticker that says basically "I'm driving a manual
unlike you cowards, if you think you can do better, honk" for
when I take more than three nanoseconds to move when the lights
turn green
L82[00:44:22] <lunar_sam> Izzy: i also need
this but i 5k RPM clutch drop when people do that to me
L83[00:44:32] <lunar_sam> "smell you
later losers"
L84[01:03:17] <Corded> >
<Z0idburg> Both times I was able to steer out of the way and
go around…
L85[01:03:17]
<JasonS>
isn't this what the handbrake is for?
L86[01:22:43] <Izzy> S3: looks like the
supercharger button in the mad max car
L87[01:43:05] <Amanda> aaaAAAaaa I can't do
steel until I get brass going
L88[01:44:29] <Amanda> And I only
discovered this after getting steel mostly set up
L89[01:55:20] <Amanda> Guess it's zzzmews
time
L90[01:56:06] *
Amanda meows stories to Elfi from the fae/spirit realm of her
subconscious
L91[02:02:14] <Izzy> new server is using
about 32W idling, down from ~100
L92[02:02:41] <Izzy> new disk array will
make up that difference, but I'm breaking even, and that's
something
L93[02:17:05]
<Ocawesome101> @S3 one of my big
conditions when looking for a first car was that it had to be
manual lol. i'm curious if rev matching the downshift is the part
that makes double clutching better? i.e. if you rev match and
single clutch it if that would still save it?
L94[02:17:18]
<Ocawesome101> because single clutch +
revmatch i'd think would just be putting more wear on the
synchros
L95[02:17:37]
<Ocawesome101> oh, unless you mean
shifting the rear end
L96[02:17:41]
<Ocawesome101> in which case that makes
sense
L97[02:21:06]
<Michiyo>
This wee kand next week are going to kill me.
L99[02:21:22]
<Michiyo> *
week and next week are going to kill me.
L100[02:21:52]
<Michiyo>
I'm not a fan, my usual daily drive is ~10 miles... lol
L101[02:44:50]
<Ocawesome101> jesus
L102[03:03:55]
<S3>
@JasonS no not that all. I mentioned that. That's actually a
parking brake. It's not an "emergency breaking tool". In
most all cars that haven't been adjusted, it will not stop your car
if it is already moving at speed. You can get stronger drums and
adjust it to be tighter, but in almost any car if you just drive 45
miles an hour and
L103[03:03:55] <Corded> pull the parking
break it will not really do anything but wear the drums down and
very, very, very slowly slow down the vehicle
L104[03:04:36]
<JasonS>
huh
L105[03:04:39]
<JasonS>
then I've been misinformed
L106[03:05:42]
<S3> Racing
games are a huge reason for that
L107[03:05:52]
<S3> They
make it sound like a really strong break
L108[03:05:58]
<S3>
Frigging auto correct
L109[03:06:36]
<S3>
Anyways, if you want a really strong brake, you could do what my
truck has and install what is called a driveshaft parking
brake
L110[03:06:36]
<Michiyo>
Drift cars do modify their "e brakes" to be really strong
brakes.
L111[03:07:11]
<S3> You
have to be careful because those are very, very strong, practically
instant and can be kind of dangerous lol
L112[03:07:57]
<S3> Yeah.
My WRX is like that
L113[03:08:09]
<S3> The
shoes are very grippy
L114[03:08:16]
<S3> And
the handle adjustment is very tight
L115[03:12:35]
<S3> Its a
good way to wear down or damage the cylinders, drums, shoes
etc.
L116[03:13:26]
<S3> If you
can get caliper parking brakes then it's a different story, but
most all parking brakes today j still see working on cars are drum
brakes
L117[03:14:27]
<S3> The
brakes connected to your brake pedals though are usually rotors and
calipers
L118[03:14:55]
<S3> So the
rear rotors often have a built in drum to hold the parking brake
shoes
L119[03:15:43]
<S3> Now
you know more about brakes than you ever wanted to know
L120[03:16:08]
<S3>
Trivia: never full throttle with one foot and try to brake with the
other
L121[03:16:22]
<Michiyo>
Unfortunately, no :P I already knew this.
L122[03:16:40]
<S3>
Lll
L123[03:16:48]
<S3>
Lol*
L124[03:16:59]
<S3> I was
mostly meaning @JasonS
L125[03:17:08]
<S3>
@Michiyo knows everything
L126[03:17:11]
<Michiyo> I
figured, but I wanted to be a smartass
L127[03:17:33]
<S3>
Lol
L128[03:17:35]
<Michiyo> I
have approximate knowledge of many things
L130[03:18:23]
<S3>
Haha
L131[03:25:58]
<S3> Where
the he'll have i seen this guy before
L132[03:27:26]
<S3>
Adventure time
L133[03:28:19]
<Michiyo>
Yep
L134[03:29:29]
<S3> So
this means a michiyo is some sort of super vilain
L135[03:29:46]
<S3>
Villain*
L136[03:30:30]
<Michiyo> I
mean, obviously
L137[03:35:17]
<S3>
@Ocawesome101 yes but also that truck does not have any
syncronizers. You get used to it, but messing up your shifting
while moving slow means stopping the entire vehicle and starting
over
L138[03:36:29]
<Ocawesome101> unsurprising, it looked old
enough from the pictures for that to be the case
L139[03:37:15]
<Ocawesome101> would double clutching
_all_ your shifts make sense then?
L140[03:39:53]
<S3> The
problem is the truck weighs 12,000 pounds empty. It has a capacity
of 24 000 pounds. If you are driving and you downshift, especially
if you are going on a downward slope, the weight of the vehicle
itself is pushing back on the driver rain and into the engine. At
max capacity, that means you can have the momentum of 24,000
pounds
L141[03:39:54] <Corded> going back into
your driveshaft. So if you don't double clutch, you risk having so
much backwards torque that the entire differential can rip out of
the driveshaft and off of the leaf springs, causing the rear able
to fall to the ground
L142[03:40:18]
<S3> Drive
train not driver rain lol
L143[03:40:25]
<S3> Auto
correct...
L144[03:41:01]
<S3> Axle
not able
L145[03:42:42]
<S3> You
could double clutch all of them, but in general if you are
upsetting it's not that big of a deal.
L146[03:42:57]
<S3>
Upshifting damn
L147[03:43:40]
<Ocawesome101> i rev match all my
downshifts but single clutch half the time because in my little
sedan it's smoother
L148[03:44:35]
<S3> It
also weighs a lot less lol
L149[03:44:53]
<S3> And
you have synchromesh to help
L150[03:44:59]
<Ocawesome101> i can see how you'd run
into problems if you didn't rev match. and then i'd think all
double clutching specifically would do is keep the transmission in
better shape?
L151[03:45:06]
<Ocawesome101> yeah only like 2800 pounds
lmao
L152[03:45:46]
<S3> Just
the gear ratio of the diff in that truck is somewhere between 5 and
6 to 1
L153[03:46:09]
<Ocawesome101> third gear synchro is about
half broken, the rest are fine. it has like 250k miles and i think
the previous owner beat the crap out of it
L154[03:46:15]
<Ocawesome101> damn
L155[03:46:28]
<Ocawesome101> ig towing you'd need
that
L156[03:46:28]
<S3> In
first gear low i do about 2 miles an hour at recline, if it had a
recline. The truck is too old to have a tachometer so
L157[03:46:40]
<S3> It's
very very low geared
L158[03:47:08]
<S3> And in
5 high its like 45 - 50 mph
L159[03:47:46]
<S3> It
could go faster downhill but it doesn't have the horsepower to do
it otherwise
L160[03:48:22]

one for $12K USD
L209[12:07:09]
<S3> I
dunno
L210[12:07:11] <Izzy> bunch of weight for
a turbo that doesn't really give you anything and makes the bike
less responsive to throttle input
L211[12:08:01]
<S3> It has
a 673 though so it's "enough"™️
L212[12:09:06] <Izzy> > While the XN
did not have the power of other sportbikes, it had notably better
handling than similar powered machines due to frame and suspension
geometry.
L213[12:09:11] <Izzy> okay maybe it
would've been okay
L214[12:09:34] <Izzy> it is quite heavy
though
L215[12:10:06]
<S3> I mean
it'ss a 4 cylinder too so
L216[12:10:08]
<S3> I'd
imagine
L217[12:10:26]
<S3> We
didn't exactly have great technology for small cylinders back
then
L218[12:11:12]
<S3> I
don't know much about bikes but in engines, even the 4 cylinder V
engines were enough to outweigh a small V8 sometimes
L219[12:11:30] <Izzy> 1989 ZXR250 is 100kg
lighter
L220[12:12:04] <Izzy> more than half the
power with less than half the displacement, and no turbo lag
L221[12:12:07]
<S3> 220
pounds lighter what
L222[12:12:13]
<S3> that's
more than an entire person
L223[12:12:28]
<S3> I
weigh like 72 kg
L224[12:12:31] <Izzy> oh, was comparing
wet to dry
L225[12:12:33] <Izzy> it's more like
70kg
L226[12:12:38]
<S3>
lolol
L228[12:13:23]
<S3> I
always wanted a Ninja 500R in erms of more current bikes
L229[12:13:42]
<S3> They
are cheap and get decent mileage and quiet
L230[12:13:43] <Izzy> dunno if you got the
cool bikes over there, I think there's only a market for 40hp 1.5L
bikes
L231[12:14:01]
<S3> A
friend of mine tried to sell me his suzuki streetfighter 1100
L232[12:14:03]
<S3> I was
like eh
L233[12:14:04]
<S3>
LOL
L234[12:14:29]
<S3> A
friend of mine had a 200/250 cc Ninja and said not to buy it
L235[12:14:47] <Izzy> the Ninja 250 is not
as good as the ZZR 250 that came before
L236[12:14:59] <Izzy> ZZR has 8-12hp on
it
L237[12:15:03]
<S3> Mostly
becaause if you got on the interstate and you were already going 60
mph you had like no power to pass people, and would have to often
slow down and move back into the primary lane out of the passing
lane in traffic which can be dangerous
L238[12:15:26] <Izzy> ZZR does struggle at
110 I'll admit that though
L239[12:15:27]
<S3> He
said he was sad there just wasn't enough pull at speed for it, and
he had wished he got a 500 instead
L240[12:15:40] <Izzy> you're in the power
band but the engine has like zero torque
L241[12:15:47] <Izzy> and in 6th gear it's
pretty glacial
L242[12:16:02] <Izzy> you can shift down
to 5th but you don't want to stay there for too long
L243[12:16:15] <Izzy> not so good to sit
on 9.5kRPM
L244[12:16:26]
<S3> This
is something I really like about my WRX (a car though)
L245[12:16:39]
<S3> I can
stay at redline all day long and never blow the engine
L246[12:17:01] <Izzy> the ZZR is
definitely designed for it, but my grandad really hammered into me
that you shouldn't
L247[12:17:18]
<S3> The
benefits of an opposing boxer engine heheh
L248[12:17:19] <Izzy> like it goes to 15k
and the peak power is at like 11k
L249[12:17:22]
<Spider
EveryOS> %tonkout
L250[12:17:23] <MichiBot> Darn! Spider
EveryOS! You beat Vaur's previous record of 4 hours, 52 minutes
and 29 seconds (By 3 hours, 8 minutes and 45 seconds)! I hope
you're happy!
L251[12:17:24] <MichiBot> Spider EveryOS
has stolen the tonkout! Tonk has been reset! They gained 0.008 tonk
points! plus 0.007 bonus points for consecutive hours! (Reduced to
50% because stealing) Current score: 2.5204818. Position #1
L252[12:17:41]
<S3> So, if
turbo is so latent on bikes
L253[12:17:41] <Izzy> ngl I kept looking
into more modern bigger bikes
L254[12:17:55]
<S3> why
not put a blower on it instead
L255[12:18:01]
<S3>
supercharge it
L256[12:18:03] <Izzy> but nothing can
really beat the ZZR250 meaningfully
L257[12:18:24] <Izzy> they tend to be
heavier than the gain in power would suggest
L258[12:18:47] <Izzy> only reason I'd
bother is if I were regularly on the highway
L259[12:18:54] <Izzy> and I have a car for
those sorts of depressing trips now
L260[12:20:00]
<S3> I
wouldn't have much interest in highways, I don't anyways
L261[12:20:16]
<S3> Even
with my car, I often take the longer dirt road to work
L262[12:20:19] <Izzy> no reason not to go
smaller then
L263[12:20:21]
<S3>
becauuse it's rated like 55 mph
L264[12:20:23] <Izzy> you'll have more
fun
L265[12:20:24]
<S3> way
more fun
L266[12:20:35] <Izzy> what's that like
80?
L267[12:20:53]
<S3>
somewhere around there
L268[12:21:02]
<S3> It's a
fun windy dirt road that's super smooth
L269[12:21:10]
<S3>
There's nothing out there
L270[12:21:49]
<S3>
WOAH
L271[12:21:55]
<S3> Google
street maps doesn't even have it
L272[12:21:56] <Izzy> but yeah, ZZR250 is
36hp and 145kg, VT250 is 40hp and 144kg, ZXR250 is 44hp, 141kg, and
a maintenance nightmare
L273[12:22:27] <Izzy> I love the idea of
tiny 4-pot screamers but do not enjoy the idea of tuning four
separate carburetors
L274[12:22:38]
<S3> They
take good care of it
L276[12:24:02] <Izzy> sidenote, the ZZR
may be marginally heavier but it has full fairings and a more
relaxed design so it's comfy for back roads touring
L278[12:24:37]
<S3> That
one is super fin
L279[12:24:40]
<S3>
Fun*
L280[12:24:44] <Izzy> there's also the
GPX250 which is the ZZR250 engine in a Ducati Monster style trelis
frame, it shaves like 10kg off
L281[12:24:46]
<S3> It
goes halfway across the state
L282[12:25:34] <Izzy> yeah 138kg for the
GPX250R
L283[12:25:47] <Izzy> you could argue it's
the cooler ZZR250, but then I'd run you over
L284[12:26:52]
<S3>
lol
L285[12:27:44] <Izzy> friend's sister has
a GPX250, and she's put a bigger rear sprocket on it so the gearing
is all taller
L286[12:27:54] <Izzy> she's quite happy
with it on the highway
L287[12:28:14]
<S3>
Huh
L288[12:28:30]
<S3> Do you
have to have a special license mark to drive bikes over
there?
L289[12:28:31]
<S3> We
do
L290[12:28:36] <Izzy> but I personally
like the muscle car acceleration I get out of having gearing that
isn't comfortable at 60 until third gear
L291[12:28:48] <Amanda> %choose 1 pure or
3 normal
L292[12:28:48] <MichiBot> Amanda: The
sands of time whisper to me... they're saying "3
normal".
L293[12:28:49] <Izzy> yeah it's a separate
license class
L294[12:29:00]
<S3> I wish
that the WRX had better low end torque
L295[12:29:05]
<S3> That's
my biggest complaint
L296[12:29:17] <Izzy> two-day pre-learner
course, minimum of 3 months on learner permit, two day pre-P-plate
course, three years on P plates
L297[12:29:56] <Izzy> heh the ZZR has zero
torque below 7kRPM
L298[12:29:57] <Amanda> hrm, logistics
disagrees
L299[12:30:09] <Amanda> I also need iron
there.. oh fuck, and water
L300[12:30:14] <Amanda> so yeah, 1 pure it
is
L301[12:31:22] <Izzy> the swift and ZZR
are actually rather similar experiences
L302[12:31:44] <Izzy> minimal low-end
torque and a linear power curve peaking at about 3/4 of the
tacho
L304[12:32:31]
<S3> If you
need toruqe with it you always need to be like a gear and a half
worth lower than you want to be
L306[12:33:39] <Izzy> torque: no
L307[12:33:43]
<S3>
heh
L308[12:33:47]
<S3> I miss
having a Jeep
L309[12:34:03]
<S3> Jeeps
are not fast, but they are low geared enogh that stepping on the
gas would pin you to the seat
L310[12:34:10] <Izzy> the VT250 has so
much low-end torque by comparison it's unreal
L311[12:34:11]
<S3> It
feels fasr, even though it's not
L312[12:34:15] <Izzy> and it's less
torquey than the XT250
L313[12:34:15]
<S3>
fast*
L314[12:34:24] <Izzy> the XT250 was
delightful
L315[12:34:40]
<S3> XT250
looks like a tinny little tthing
L316[12:34:40] <Izzy> ~110kg, only like
24hp, but the engine was all torque
L317[12:34:59]
<S3>
Heh
L318[12:35:25] <Izzy> also not fast, but
it could basically climb vertical surfaces
L319[12:35:45]
<S3>
lol
L320[12:35:51]
<S3> Dirt
bike at that ppoint
L321[12:35:51]
<S3>
LOL
L322[12:36:01] <Izzy> I mean, dual sport,
it literally is
L323[12:36:18] <Izzy> relatively big for a
dirt bike, but quite happy in the dirt
L324[12:36:32] <Izzy> plus, it can do 80
on the road if you don't mind it shaking your guts up
L325[12:36:44] <Izzy> thumper moment
L326[12:39:56]
<S3> I
dunno if I would want to take a bike on the dirt
L327[12:40:03]
<S3> I
would probably take the 3 wheelers instead
L328[12:40:14]
<S3> Though
you can't really bring those down the road very far in most towns
here
L329[12:40:28]
<S3> Some
of the towns here have full reign of the roads for ATVs
L330[12:40:33]
<S3> so you
can just drive down the road with them
L331[12:40:36]
<S3> But
most don't
L332[12:40:55]
<S3> It's
pretty handy when you just want to take your snowmobile to the
store 😄
L333[12:40:55] <Izzy> statistically, dirt
bikes are safer
L334[12:41:01]
<S3>
hahahahahaha
L335[12:41:03]
<S3> skill
issue
L336[12:41:08] <Izzy> weight issue
L337[12:41:26] <Izzy> if you flip a dirt
bike onto you, oh no, who cares
L338[12:41:30] <Izzy> quad bikes and such
weigh a lot more
L339[12:41:40]
<S3> They
do but I've flopped them before
L340[12:41:53]
<S3> The 3
wheelers are more tippy, but just don't do something stupid
L341[12:42:32]
<S3> Yamaha
trimotos, they are very fun
L343[12:42:41]
<S3> Not
mine, I just snagged that from Google
L344[12:42:53] <Izzy> goofy creature
L345[12:43:01]
<S3> You
tap the gas and it wheelies 😄
L346[12:43:09] <Izzy> that figures
L347[12:43:11]
<S3>
because they're shaft driven and RWD with tons of torque
L348[12:46:23]
<S3> This
kid is having too much fun
L350[13:00:29] <Amanda> %choose try and
mine sulfur or wait until you've unlocked the research
L351[13:00:30] <MichiBot> Amanda:
Elementary dear Watson, "wait until you've unlocked the
research" is the obvious choice!
L352[13:38:52] <Corded> >
<Z0idburg> Jeeps are not fast, but they are low geared enogh
that step…
L353[13:38:52]
<Ocawesome101> my car will almost pin you
to the seat if you floor it in first. anything else and lol
no
L354[13:39:30]
<Ocawesome101> it has no power, first gear
only goes to 35mph
L355[13:51:48]
<S3> I mean
35 is really high for first even for any standard vehicle
L356[13:52:02]
<S3> Like
really high
L357[13:52:29]
<S3> I
might be able to get to 25 in the wrong in first and that's pretty
high geared
L358[13:52:40]
<S3> 25 in
first*
L359[13:52:57]
<S3> The
truck goes like 2 XD
L360[13:53:38]
<S3> The
truck is slow enough that you can actually lose momentum and not be
able i shift into second if you're going uphill
L361[13:54:15]
<S3> So if
you're on a hill you just ride first gear and take your time into
you each the top
L362[13:54:33]
<S3> Annoys
the fuck out of people
L363[14:18:28] <Amanda> Hrm
L364[15:29:51]
<Forecaster> You need the research to
avoid opening any gateways to hell
L365[16:07:37] <Amanda> I have made molten
brass! :D
L366[16:07:41] <Amanda> er, brass
ingots
L367[16:07:48] <Amanda> ( Out of the
molten brass )
L368[16:12:18]
<Forecaster> I'd be impressed if you made
ingots without melting it first
L369[16:22:50] <Amanda> Last time I did
that my hooman got called a witch and chased out of town
L370[16:41:28]
<Forecaster> it'd also be very noisy I
imagine
L371[16:52:12]
<Vaur>
%tonk
L372[16:52:14] <MichiBot> Dogast! Vaur!
You beat Spider EveryOS's previous record of <0 (By 4 hours, 34
minutes and 49 seconds)! I hope you're happy!
L373[16:52:15] <MichiBot> Vaur's new
record is 4 hours, 34 minutes and 49 seconds! Vaur also gained
0.00458 tonk points for stealing the tonk. Position #3. Need
0.0548918 more points to pass Forecaster!
L374[17:01:28]
<Vaur>

@Forecaster with mutable brass potion
L377[17:01:42] <MichiBot> You fling a

@Forecaster turns into a wolf for 5 moons.

<Forecaster> hey D:<

L380[17:07:47]
<Ocawesome101> 35 at 6500rpm. it's very
much an econobox. second goes to 60. and yet it cruises at 80 at
3000rpm in top (5th) gear lmao
L381[17:10:46] <Corded> >
<Z0idburg> I might be able to get to 25 in the wrong in
first and that…
L382[17:10:46]
<Ocawesome101> wrx is more sporty though.
makes sense that would have a lowish first gear
L383[17:18:20]
<Michiyo>
FFS... Someone emptied my fucking bank account overnight
L384[17:18:43]
<Forecaster> What
L385[17:18:45]
<Forecaster> How
L386[17:20:05]
<Michiyo>
Great question. Seems my debit card info was stolen somehow.
L387[17:20:31]
<Forecaster> Well that sucks
L388[17:21:15]
<Michiyo>
yeah, reported the fraud, bank locked my card, issued me a new card
with a new number, but sadly they have to investigate the charges
before they can reverse them

going
L392[18:40:38] <Amanda> NOw I just have to
hope I got these ratios right and it doesn't back up on the iron
side, because that'll cause a power outage. :D
L393[18:44:25]
<Forecaster> what happens if it ends up on
the carbon side
L394[18:44:43] <Amanda> Carbon's just
coming from a coal miner on it's own
L395[18:44:59] <Amanda> but iron is coming
from what I'm using a byproduct of to make power work

L402[19:01:22]
<Miko> what
am i doing wrong
L403[19:02:00] <Amanda> You're using too
old of a version of Java
L404[19:02:22] <Amanda> guessing you're
using the Curseforge launcher, which locks you to an ancient
version of java that doesn't accept modern ssl certs
L405[19:02:49]
<Miko> well
it worked before
L406[19:03:14] <Amanda> because the ssl
cert for github.com probably changed, as they do
L407[19:04:17]
<Miko> ill
move to prism then
L408[19:04:34]
<Miko> what
version is recommended?
L409[19:04:46]
<Miko>
(java)
L410[19:07:03] <Amanda> a recent 1.8
L411[19:07:15] <Amanda> for 1.12 at
least
L412[19:16:10]
<Miko> i'm
still getting the same error
L413[19:16:35]
<Miko> and
my frames have also gone down by 100
L414[19:17:14] <Amanda> what version of
java did you install?
L415[19:17:40]
<Miko>
1.8
L416[19:17:47] <Amanda> ... what release
of 1.8
L417[19:17:50] <Amanda> there's like 400
of them
L418[19:17:59]
<Miko>
Version 8 Update 411
L419[19:18:13] <Amanda> and that's what
the instance is configured to use in prism?
L420[19:18:27]
<Miko>
yes
L421[19:18:39] <Amanda> not sure then,
sorry
L422[19:19:15] <Amanda> Could be your
network has somehting that's blocking github.com if you're trying
to play from a school or similar
L423[19:26:12]
<Michiyo>
If you are getting the PKIX error you're *not* using a recent

mentioned?
L424[19:26:39] <Corded> >
<Michiyo> If you are getting the PKIX error you're *not*
using a rece…
L425[19:26:39]
<Miko>
yes
L426[19:27:41]
<Michiyo>
Then take a look at the logs in Prism, one of the first things it
prints is the version of java it launched your instance with. Can
you screenshot / paste that here?
L427[19:28:27]
<Michiyo>
Looks like this
L430[19:39:22] <Amanda> Seems like you
installed 32-bit java then. Also MC can't really use 25G of
ram...
L431[19:39:35] <Amanda> There's
diminishing returns when adding more ram
L432[19:40:28]
<Miko> it
worked fine on curseforge
L434[19:46:31] <Amanda> I've played
200-mod packs just fine with 6-8G
L435[19:47:44] <Amanda> %choose automate
caterium or continue procastinating it
L436[19:47:44] <MichiBot> Amanda: If I've
learned anything in life it's that you always pick "continue
procastinating it"
L438[19:51:10]
<Miko> im
so done with prism
L439[19:51:13]
<Miko>
worked once
L440[19:51:14]
<Miko>
never again
L441[19:51:22] <Amanda> You need to
install 64-bit java
L442[19:51:36] <Amanda> You can't force a
32-bit java version to use more than 4G of ram, it's not
possible

comfortable until they download a car.
L445[20:19:27] <Amanda> Aaand my brass
factory stopped
L446[20:19:44] <Amanda> At least my steel
factory seems to be going fine
L448[20:33:22]
<Miko> can
i somehow give my server more GPU's and CPU's?
L449[20:48:16]
<Forecaster> An OC commuter can only have
one CPU
L450[20:48:28]
<Forecaster> * computer can only have one
CPU
L451[20:49:27]
<Miko> is
there a way to override the amount of GPU's? (more than 2)
L452[20:50:37]
<Forecaster> I didn't say anything about
GPUs
L453[20:51:22]
<Forecaster> You can put as many GPUs in a
computer as you have slots for
L454[20:52:02]
<Forecaster> But unless you have a program
that supports that it's not going to do anything
L455[20:54:51] <Amanda> Steel was slightly
misconfigured, so power's started failing. :D
L456[20:56:30]
<Miko> is
there a not too difficult tutorial for modems?
L457[20:57:22]
<Forecaster> The wiki
L459[20:59:15]
<Michiyo>
👍
L460[21:02:12]
<Forecaster> Sounds fun
L461[21:03:38] <Amanda> aaaAAAaaa
L462[21:05:38] <Corded> >
<Ocawesome101> 35 at 6500rpm. it's very much an econobox.
second goes to…
L463[21:05:38]
<S3> This
is funny because I can go 90 on third.
L464[21:06:17]
<S3> You
now when I am coming on the on ramp at the interstate 🙂
L465[21:06:47]
<S3>
Because I'm already gone 85-90 when I get to the end of it
L466[21:07:16]
<S3> MPh
that is
L467[21:07:28]
<S3> I
dunno what that would be in kph
L468[21:07:57]
<S3> 144
kph I guess
L469[21:55:24] <Amanda> @Forecaster are
you spying on me? Turns out it was the carbon that was causing the
problem
L470[21:56:54] <Amanda> It wasn't getting
backed up though, I wasn't mining enough of it
L471[21:57:18] ⇦

(Quit: Insert quantum chemistry joke here)
L472[22:34:01] <Amanda> Well, power plant
now also has steel production in its circuit
L473[22:39:22] <Amanda> Now to wait for
power to spin back up again
L474[22:45:40]
<Spider
EveryOS> %tonkout
L475[22:45:41] <MichiBot> I'm sorry Spider
EveryOS, you were not able to beat Vaur's record of 4 hours, 34
minutes and 49 seconds this time. 1 hour, 53 minutes and 27 seconds
were wasted! Missed by 2 hours, 41 minutes and 22 seconds!
L476[22:46:36]
<Spider
EveryOS> Did someone else move the tonk??
L477[22:47:08] <Amanda> A potion did
L478[22:47:12]
<Spider
EveryOS> Ah
L479[22:47:19]
<Spider
EveryOS> Thanks
L480[22:55:03] <Amanda> Woo, power is
stable
L481[22:55:57] <Amanda> Now I need to get
started on coal power though, this isn't going to be stable for
much longer, and I and think I can throw a third half-dozen bio
burners
L482[22:56:46] <Amanda> Nope
L483[22:57:07] <Amanda> My biomass
production can handle exactly 4 more turbines
L484[23:30:33]
<Brisingr
Aerowing> %splash @Forecaster with mutable potion
L485[23:30:33] <MichiBot> You fling a
mutable ocean potion (New!) that splashes onto @Forecaster.
@Forecaster turns into a rock otter until they see a star
fall.
L486[23:32:46] <Amanda> Hey! Where'd my
wolf go!?
L487[23:33:11] <Amanda> I was trying to
teach it play dead
