L119[18:27:23] <Hawk777> Hm, is forEach
parallel? If it is, then this code is broken because it contains
race conditions (yes, sure, closest is atomic, but you’re making
multiple accesses to it throughout the lambda). If it’s *not*, then
there’s no need to use an atomic at all.
L120[18:28:00] <Hawk777> For that matter,
if it is parallel, AltarSources.testForAltarSource might be unsafe
to call from there.
L121[18:28:01]
<TechTastic> IntelliJ suggested the
Attomic use
L122[18:28:05] <Hawk777> Might not be
threadsafe.
L123[18:29:43] <Hawk777> If forEach is not
parallel, then it should be safe, just unnecessarily
inefficient.
L124[18:29:49] <Hawk777> (using an
atomic)
L125[18:30:17]
<TechTastic> would it be better to then
use a standard for loop if it running in parallel and using that
method is the issue??
L126[18:30:56] <Hawk777> Well, first of
all I’d look up the documentation to determine whether it is in
fact running in parallel or not.
L127[18:31:21] <Hawk777> Personally I
probably might use an ordinary loop, yes.

L206[20:14:10] <Hawk777> Wait.
L207[20:14:10] <Hawk777> Unless.
L208[20:14:19]
<TechTastic> btw, heres the Gist with all
relevant code, the DistilleryBlockEntity.tick() method is where
this whole chain starts for the checks
L210[20:14:33] <Hawk777> Hm, never
mind.
L211[20:14:51] <Hawk777> Was wondering if
there was any chance that BlockPos.offset might actually *modify*
the BlockPos object rather than only returning a new one.
L212[20:14:55] <Hawk777> But that doesn’t
look to be the case.

BlockPos.betweenClosed uses a MutableBlockPos under the hood
L217[20:18:07] <SquidDev> So yeah, L234
should be closest = pos.immutable(); instead.
L218[20:18:25]
<TechTastic> ill make the change in a
sec
L219[20:18:27] <Hawk777> Oh, but what
actually matters would be the type of the BlockPos passed as a
parameter, not what’s used under the hood, I think?
L220[20:18:41] <Hawk777> I.e. the type of
“center”, because that’s the object on which “offset” is being
called.
L222[20:22:15] <Hawk777> Hm, that wouldn’t
affect a print at the top of the loop though. It would just result
in “closest” being modified as the loop continues.
L223[20:22:42] <Hawk777> Oh hold on I
thought the “Testing …” output came from a totally different place
than it actually does.
L224[20:24:22] <Hawk777> Hm, no, never
mind, it does. Even if “closest” is being modified under the hood,
each call to testForAltarSource should result in a call to
getAltarSource which should result in a call to
TATAltarSourceProvider.getAltarSource which prints the current loop
variable. Yet the image posted for the values of the loop variables
showed instances of MutableBlockPos with always only one value, not
iterating.

⇨ Joins: archflexer (~archflexe@s5.mcskill.net)
L227[20:25:48] <Hawk777> I agree if “pos”
is a MutableBlockPos that’s being reused each loop iteration, then
“closest” needs to clone it, not just hold a reference, but there
must be another problem too.

L281[22:15:54] <Hawk777> TechTastic: The
stream returns the same object over and over, modifying its
internals.
L282[22:16:08] <Hawk777> When you call
toList, the Stream is consumed, performing all those updates, and
the returned List contains a bunch of copies of the same
object.
L283[22:17:09] <Hawk777> Can you use a
Stream in a for loop (it’s been a while since I’ve done much Java)?
If you can, I’d say probably do that instead. If not, then you
probably need to add a .map(i => i.immutable()) before the
toList call.
L284[22:17:22] <Hawk777> Or just do three
nested loops and dump the whole Stream stuff.
L285[22:20:46] <Hawk777> Or turn it into
