L190[20:26:28] <Peachy> Still a little new to all this so sorry if I question a lot of things haha
L191[20:26:53] <ThePiGuy24> horrible java-compatible programming language
L192[20:27:46] <Peachy> Oh right I see
L193[20:28:40] <Peachy> I don't suppose you have an answer for my question above do you? i can't find nothing useful online to help me... for something so popular it's surprising how little information I can find on how to use this
L194[20:29:14] <Michiyo> https://ocdoc.cil.li/component:computer?s[]=beep
L195[20:30:27] <Peachy> Oh amazing! thank you
L196[20:31:42] <Michiyo> Also https://ocdoc.cil.li/api:note?s[]=note
L197[20:31:59] <Sky> I wonder if anyone has made speech using only the beep function lol
L198[20:32:33] <ThePiGuy24> no, its way too limited
L199[20:32:39] <ThePiGuy24> too slow rather
L200[20:32:49] <Sky> Yeah looking at the docs speed is the issue
L201[20:33:04] <Sky> You could absolutely compress speech into 20Hz - 2000Hz
L202[20:33:18] <Sky> But I think you could only do like 20 samples per second
L203[20:35:01] <Peachy> so how would the beep line be written? this is the example it shows but i'm not sure if the square brackets and ssuch are needed it.
L204[20:35:01] <Peachy> beep([frequency:number[, duration:number]])
L205[20:35:02] <Peachy> Could someone write an example just so I know how it's supposed to look in the file?
L206[20:39:34] <ThePiGuy24> you can just do `computer.beep()` on its own and it will just beep at some frequency for some length of time, or you can specify a frequency like `computer.beep(440)` to beep at 440 hertz for some period of time, or specify a time like `computer.beep(440,0.5)` to beep at 440 hertz for half a second
L207[20:40:43] <Peachy> Oh excilent ok thanks i'll try that out
L208[20:41:33] <Michiyo> If you're just starting out in lua, I again recommend %pil
L209[20:41:33] <MichiBot> https://www.lua.org/pil/contents.html#P1
L210[20:42:10] <Peachy> alrighty col 🙂 thanks i appreciate the help

L212[20:43:45] <Peachy> So I just put one of the examples you gave me in the file, it's the only line in the file and I saved and closed then ran that file and nothing happened it responded with an error.
L213[20:44:19] <ThePiGuy24> "error" is unhelpful, please post a screenshot or log of the error
L214[20:44:46] <ThePiGuy24> it gets even worse, the internal documentation says it returns a number, when it does not https://tinyurl.com/2eo647et

L221[20:47:34] <ThePiGuy24> >Michiyo: was likely a change at some point that wasn't updated on the wiki.
L222[20:47:35] <ThePiGuy24> no, it does in fact return a string, the wiki is right, the internal documentation is wrong
L223[20:48:09] <ThePiGuy24> >Peachy: This is what responds when the file is run
L224[20:48:10] <ThePiGuy24> you need to include the computer library, put `local computer = require("computer")` at the start of your program
L225[20:48:39] <Peachy> Ohhhhh okay gotcha
L226[20:49:48] <Michiyo> You have to require stuff like component, event, computer etc.
L227[20:50:37] <Peachy> Ah ok ok I get it now
L228[20:50:44] <Peachy> It worked this time
L229[20:50:57] <Peachy> Awesome i'm picking this up lmao

L231[20:52:24] <Michiyo> gpu.lua expects a number, I'm wondering if string is a bug...
L232[20:52:31] <Michiyo> the string*
L233[20:52:33] <Ocawesome101> what the hell why is that a thing

L241[21:21:16] <MichiBot> Forecaster's new record is 2 hours, 42 minutes and 50 seconds! Forecaster also gained 0.00271 tonk points for stealing the tonk. Position #1.

L243[21:48:27] <Peachy> real quick question, probably a little silly to ask but how do you delete an existing file? For example, i've made a file simply called test. I'd like to remove it without simply deleting all the contents of the file or whatever by holding backspace.
L244[21:51:15] <Amanda> "rm test"
L245[21:51:16] <PwnagePineapple (He/Him)> From a terminal run `rm test`

L250[23:26:47] <Peachy> So, this is a question for anyone that's used Immersiverailroading with OC.
L251[23:26:47] <Corded> I'm attempting to set the train's throttle, but it seems to be locked at 0 when on the locomotive controller. Even if I set the throttle to 0.50 or any other setting, it doesn't change.
L252[23:26:47] <Corded> I have a locomotive controll augment on the track with an OC Adaptor placed directly below it, and have it connected to a computer with a cable. I then have a file with the following code written up. Based on what i've
L253[23:26:48] <Corded> learned from how the mod works, this should be changing the train's throttle speed but isn't. https://tinyurl.com/2jhmfpdj
L254[23:27:27] <Peachy> Whenver I try to use any other method like plate1.horn, plate1.bell or even plate1.setBrake it works fine but the throttle doesn't want to shift for some reason
L255[23:40:14] <ThePiGuy24> is the dead mans switch on any loco on the train enabled?
L256[23:44:21] <Peachy> I don't believe so
L257[23:44:50] <Peachy> No i just checked deadman switch is disabled right now
L258[23:48:00] <ThePiGuy24> hm, it has been a while since i last played about with IR and OC, brain isnt working too good atm
L259[23:48:27] <ThePiGuy24> can you manually set the throttle on the train and then change it through the computer?
L260[23:48:36] <ThePiGuy24> i know IR can be a bit finnicky sometimes
L261[23:49:29] <Peachy> Not if it's sitting on the lokomotive control. If I place the train down elsewhere then yes of course, but when it's on the controller, it seems to stick to one setting then refuses to change to anything else. Even though I can have the controller change the brake, bell and horn status's
L262[23:52:23] <Peachy> >ThePiGuy24: i know IR can be a bit finnicky sometimes
L263[23:52:23] <Peachy> You can say that again lol i really do hope it's not some weird bug because i'd really like to try and automate a full train network on a server i'm working on. At some point I'd like to try and make a full program for the train automation system.
L264[23:54:12] <ThePiGuy24> usually i just end up using the remote control cards, on my server(s) i typically have the range upped a lot so they are actually useful, though it becomes less realistic if you do that
L265[23:55:58] <Peachy> How does that work? I've not messed with the remote control cards before
L266[23:56:31] <Peachy> If I can't figure out why the throttle won't change then i may have to look at alternative methods
