<Z0idberg>
@Ocawesome101 So it's official, I have a group we're making a game
for that competition
L2[00:35:50]
<Z0idberg>
a small group
L3[00:35:54]
<Ocawesome101> nice
L4[00:36:14]
<Z0idberg>
yep. We're going to use that asteroids engine I wrote and showed
you if you saw that as a base game engine for it
L5[00:36:23]
<Z0idberg>
that way its more than half done
L6[00:36:47]
<Z0idberg>
We will be submitting our github page with an embedded dosbox if we
can running it
L7[00:37:08]
<Z0idberg>
It may end up being the only 16 bit real mode x86 game submitted
🙂
L8[00:37:49]
<Z0idberg>
I will be modifying the engine slightly to support rectangular
graphics additionally on top of the polar graphics system it runs
on.
L9[00:37:58]
<Ocawesome101> i don't think i saw
that
L10[00:38:02]
<Z0idberg>
ok
L11[00:38:04]
<Z0idberg>
hold on
L13[00:38:53]
<Z0idberg>
it needs collision detection, which I will try to use segment
intersect collisiondetection instead of bounding boxes I
think
L14[00:38:58]
<Z0idberg>
to do pixel to pixel collision
L15[00:39:20]
<Z0idberg>
With 2D I can get away with that.
L16[00:47:19]
<Ocawesome101> ohhhhhh yeah i saw
that

<starblund>
I'm really struggling to figure out how to go about getting a
computer in game to talk to a script/application outside of the
game. I'm very new to networking, but I'm guessing that
TCP/sockets/etc are the route I need to go down, but what I've
tried to follow online so far has left me stumped. I've managed to
get two python scripts to talk to each other, but can't even tell
if OC is successfully doing anything related to this yet.
Coul
L80[08:50:18]

this?

<starblund>
I went through that and `Internet API`, but still found myself
pretty confused. I've assumed I should be using something like an
IP address for what my goal is, instead of a web domain like in the
examples there, but I guess I'm not entirely confident in
that
L86[08:54:49]
<ThePiGuy24> you can use domains
L87[08:54:56]
<ThePiGuy24> they get resolved
automatically
L88[08:56:20]
<starblund>
What do you mean by resolved automatically?
L89[08:56:30] <Ariri> A dynamic hostname
can resolve to a changing ip address (as they do get shifted
periodically, and hardcoding an IP is less convenient)
L90[08:56:55]
<ThePiGuy24> resolved means it looks up
the domain name and gets the corresponding IP address
L92[08:58:58]
<starblund>
What do you mean by hardcoding an IP is less convenient?
L93[08:59:40]
<ThePiGuy24> if the IP changes, you'd need
to change it too
L94[09:00:05]
<ThePiGuy24> whereas with a domain name,
that taken care of by someone/something else
L95[09:00:53]
<starblund>
Does it matter what IP I use then for this kind of thing, as long
as both sides of the communication are pointing at the same
one?
