L138[08:13:38] <S3_> how would _index={}
help with that
L139[08:13:45] <Inari> byvalue would be
terrible though
L140[08:13:51] <S3_> Not really
L141[08:13:59] <S3_> byvalue can be very
fast. They're tables
L142[08:14:09] <Inari> Creating 500 copies
of everything because everything is ta ble in lua?
L143[08:14:09] <S3_> you would use
persistent node copy
L144[08:14:10] <Izaya> S3_: more generally
_index being a table
L145[08:14:57] <Inari> S3_: Well, can't
you implement that though? Not sure
L146[08:15:22] <S3_> No, you don't need to
copy the entire data for byvalue copies of tables. you just create
a new root and make pointers to updated values. It is much faster.
It is still technically by reference under the hood but when you
modify information in a table this way it creates a new table root
so you don't edit the original table
L147[08:15:35] <S3_> this way you can send
tables to other coroutines and they won't change the tables in the
other coroutine
L149[08:16:57] <S3_> Inari: :)

<DaComputerNerd> Ah.

L243[10:34:02] <S3_> DaComputerNerd when

L244[10:34:09]

I think it's the only one currently but still
L245[10:34:53] <AmandaC> I very much
prefer human-language commands where possible.
L246[10:35:25] <AmandaC> so I do my best
to think them up, esp when it's as simple as splitting on "
with " instead of " "
L247[10:35:45] <Inari> %lewd AmandaC with

L248[10:35:46] <MichiBot> Inari: What did
inari do now?!
L249[10:35:51]
<DaComputerNerd> Then I would check if the
last word was "potion", check if the section before it
ends in a consistency, and check if the section before that ends
with a valid consistency
L250[10:35:52] <Inari> No human language

L256[10:37:59]
<DaComputerNerd> I wonder
L257[10:38:06] <AmandaC> That seems like
needless complexity, when you can literally string.split(input,

<DaComputerNerd> Parentheses are

L269[10:39:44]
<Forecaster>
no
L270[10:40:13]
<Forecaster>
but the roll part only evaluates all dice expressions, it doesn't
care about parenthesis
L271[10:40:22]
<DaComputerNerd> I see
L272[10:40:51] <S3_> Izaya: I think what I
may just do is first level copy messages being passed to other
coroutines and remind programmers to a) keep your messages small
and efficient, and b) if you pass a table and don't want to pass it
as a reference to the old one, copy it yourself.
L273[10:40:55]
<Forecaster>
it was the math parser that removed the parenthesis
L274[10:41:21] <S3_> It means that
security will be put on the shoulders of the developer more but
will help keep speed in check
L275[10:41:28] <AmandaC> @ariri / Inari is
there a way to see light levels? f7, for example?
L276[10:42:00]
<DaComputerNerd> I see, so it passes

the math system?
L277[10:42:01]
<Forecaster>
vanilla has that in the debug screen I think
L278[10:42:06]

... okay I'm trying to figure out what's going on with an
infuriating HDD bug. Has anyone run into this before? I'm
essentially opening two existing files, doing a bunch of reads and
writes to those files (which means re-opening them in different
modes and calling `file:seek` a lot), and then closing the handles
when I'm done. The size of the files on disk doesn't change... but
the filesystem usage reported does, like this:
L483[19:58:26]
<zeta0134>
In-game, the only thing I've found that consistently works around
the issue is to power off the computer, remove the hard drive, put
it back in, and power the computer up. That seems to refresh the
disk usage to what's... y'know, actually there.
L484[19:59:02]
<zeta0134>
Reboots aren't enough to trigger this refresh, and it happens in
both buffered and unbuffered mode via settings.conf
L485[19:59:13]
<zeta0134>
Anyone seen this before? Is there a known workaround?
L486[20:00:42]
<zeta0134>
I've been combing over the Lua code making sure I don't have any
stale file handles or whatever; I'm not completely ruling out my
own incompetence, but it smells like something weird is going on
with the mod itself

L489[20:48:46] <AmandaC> @ariri maybe it's
an issue on the sending side? Try checking that it's got power by
plugging a device in maybe? Or break and replace the energy
accepter
L490[20:49:18] <AmandaC> And make sure
it's all in one chunk, of they're all loaded
L491[20:49:22]
<Ariri> I
did that and it was fine, the empty energy cell charged it up and
it started to work
L492[20:49:37]
<Ariri> Er,
when I did that, it was still ofline

the energy cell
L495[20:50:44] <AmandaC> If the quantum
tunnel is across a chunk boundary I could see that being an issue
cause it to get in a bad state, Minecraft access is a mess

L496[20:51:17] <AmandaC> Err, chunk
access
L497[20:51:58]
