L142[18:24:05] <SporkWitch> huh, you're
right; i'll have to remember that if i need to reinstall windows
once the game is more fleshed out. KSP1 supports steam cloud saves,
and almost everything else too, so i never think about it.
L143[18:24:41] <packbart> wot, it
does?
L144[18:24:46] <SporkWitch> Yep
L145[18:24:58] <SporkWitch> KSP2 doesn't,
though
L147[18:25:30] <packbart> huh. never used
it (I don't actually play the KSP installed by Steam, only copy it
elsewhere)
L149[18:25:54] <packbart> I know that it
supports the Steam Workshop for craft files and such
L150[18:26:21] <SporkWitch> I wonder if
they're just waiting for later, once things are more solidified. As
far along as everything is, they might still have to make changes
that break saves or craft files.
L151[18:26:36] <SporkWitch> For example,
the dynamic extra attachment points to strengthen wings, i could
totally see that breaking both.
L152[18:27:21] <packbart> having it on GFN
would be pretty handy, though. but probably only for unmodded stock
which would be meh ;)
L153[18:27:59] <SporkWitch> eh, I wouldn't
be so sure. Though I'm expecting awesome stuff from the modding
community, the core roadmap covers all the stuff that I loved most
about mods in KSP1: colonies and off-world production.
L154[18:28:22] <packbart> GFN also
tightened up restrictions. I can trick it into installing a beta
version but it won't run :(
L155[18:28:32] <SporkWitch> The main thing
I'll probably add is a more detailed life support mod; I don't
expect them to implement it for craft, only colonies, and I like
the added challenge of even something as simple as USI Life
Support.
L156[18:30:18] <packbart> yeah, I think
life support is best left to mods because there are so many
different ways to make them (from simple to complex)
L157[18:30:29] <packbart> Snacks vs
Kerbalism
L158[18:31:15] <SporkWitch> yup, an
argument I've made several times. Better to keep the stock stuff
simple or absent, and let modders do it how they want. Easier than
trying to make it work with a stock system that's already
there.
L159[18:32:42] <SporkWitch> I like USI
because it hits that sweet spot between snacks and kerbalism. Two
main resources, and a secondary: supplies, mulch, and fertilizer.
Kerbals consume supplies, which turns into mulch, and there are
modules that convert mulch+fertilizer into supplies over time.
Other modules reduce the supply consumption rate (different number
of kerbals supported, and different percent reductions).
L160[18:33:19] <SporkWitch> If you run out
of supplies or EC, you have 14 kerbin days and then the kerbals
turn into tourists until you have supplied the missing resource
(effectively they go on strike).
L161[18:33:40] <packbart> TacLS is
similar, I think. Only used that and Kerbalism so far
L162[18:34:39] <SporkWitch> Homesickness
mechanic as well, so you need empty seats to give them
"room" to move around, or they go stir crazy and again
turn into tourists. Two timers for this, the stir-crazy (comfort)
and homesickness (actual need to return to kerbin)
L163[18:34:57] <SporkWitch> Just complex
enough to be challenging and fun, without gettting totally in the
weeds and having to manage a boatload of resources.
L164[18:35:28] <packbart> linuxgurugamer
was making another simple one, just food and mulch
L165[18:35:31] <SporkWitch> (a slight
complaint i had with MKS, as the supply chains were realistic, but
very complicated, reducing some of the fun)
L166[18:36:00] <packbart> I gave up and
patched the numbers in Kerbalism's recipes :)
L167[18:36:37] <packbart> I didn't want to
build the large solar farm to make a few drops of fuel on the
Mun
L168[18:37:58] <SporkWitch> yeah, i never
actually got too far in my off-world production because i always
got frustrated just trying to get things placed right. Poor rover
handling in low gravity didn't help, either. I'm very hopeful for
what I've heard of the colony plans in KSP2 being like the VAB, but
in the open world.
